Each year, Upton Vale partners with organisations near and far to bring hope and practical support through our Harvest Appeal. This year, we’re focusing on both local and global needs:
The local part of our Appeal
Once again we will be supporting Torquay’s three vital foodbanks:
-
Torquay Community Larder at the Salvation Army
-
The Store Room at St Mary Magdalene Church
-
The Foodstore at Home Church
Nowadays, people not only need food but also basic household items, as well as toiletries, due to the increased strain on their budgets. Whilst there are ups and downs in demand, the level still remains high. The referrals to the foodbanks mostly come through the Torquay Community Helpline, who also help ensure individuals are connected with the help they need. Other referrals come from Probation Services, Doctors’ Surgeries, Family Services, Drug and Alcohol Abuse Services etc. If you wish to give to the local part of our appeal here is the list of items to purchase for the foodbanks:
-
UHT milk
-
Jars of pasta sauce
-
Jam (not homemade)
-
Biscuits
-
Tea bags, coffee
-
Rice (small bags of uncooked and also pre-cooked sachets)
-

The global part of our Appeal
For the overseas part of our appeal we will be giving monetary gifts to support the refugee work of BMS; specifically their work in Cyprus. We will also be helping with the costs of our upcoming trip to our partner church in Brinza, Moldova.
Monetary gifts for the overseas part of our appeal can be given in the following ways.
All donations to Upton Vale Baptist Church are gratefully received with the understanding that, should a specific appeal be oversubscribed or not proceed as planned, the Trustees may allocate the funds to a similar project or future appeal.
