LiNX Christian Youth Trust is an exciting initiative in Torbay representing a commitment from a variety of local churches to serve young people, particularly within the context of local secondary schools. Many who attend UV regularly will testify that the work of LiNX is vital in bringing Christ to the schools of our Bay. Taking assemblies and lessons, their children's workers provide a friendly ear to children who may not otherwise have a voice. They also run Christian Union clubs to support Christian students at school - tackling important issues from a position of faith - bullying, body image, stress, etc. Upton Vale is proud to be able to contribute financially to their work.
School Pastors is a brand of detached youth work from Ascension Trust (the people behind Street Pastors). The project aims to assist schools with pupils who are experiencing difficulties or becoming involved in challenging situations during the hours after school. A team provide support and a non-confrontational adult presence around Westlands School and St Cuthbert Mayne.
Street Pastors is an inter-denominational church response to urban problems, engaging with people on the streets to care, listen and dialogue. Well over a dozen of our members are street pastors, helping those enjoying the pubs and clubs around the Bay. Working in pairs with a prayer partner back at base, the street pastors provide conversation and care to the partygoers they meet. Working with the police and door staff of various establishments, they have had a significant impact on reducing anti-social behaviour in Torbay. Click here for the local Torbay branch.
