The former Archbishop of York, William Temple, is attributed with this statement:
"The Church is the only society that exists for the benefit of those who are not its members."
God calls Christians not to be inward-looking but to take the good news of Jesus Christ out to those around us; to be involved in outreach and social care both in our local area and further afield in world mission. The Great Commission instructs us to "go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation".
Here at UV, one of our five identities is to be 'witnesses'. We believe that we are meant not only to serve one another but to go ‘outside the walls’ and try to make our world a better place; to make it more like God intended it to be. So we seek to encourage, equip and enable everyone to serve our community and the wider world.
This may be through supporting our local partners, through serving on Sunday Street Teams or as a School / Street Pastor, through helping at outreach activities or big events like Morning Out or Party in the Park or through serving abroad. It may also be by being a great parent, a just employer, a conscientious employee or a good neighbour.
