Give

We don't tend to talk much about money as a church as it can be off-putting for visitors and we never want people to feel under pressure. However, giving is an important part of discipleship and the Bible talks a lot about how individual Christians should use their money.

Everything we have belongs to God and we are responsible for administering it wisely. Giving to God's work is one of the ways this is worked out. Our motivation for giving money is important to God. Thankfulness, faith in God as our provider, giving as an act of worship and obedience to God, generosity and love are all motives we believe are in line with the Bible's teaching (2 Corinthians 8: 7 and 9: 6-15).

The Bible also teaches that Christians should support God's work willingly, cheerfully, generously, regularly and in proportion to their income and resources (1 Corinthians 16: 1-2 and 2 Corinthians 8: 3, 12). Many Christians use tithing (giving a tenth of their income) as a guideline. This is a principle referred to in the Bible (e.g. Malachi 3: 10-12). Some Christians may be able to regularly give more than a tithe and all Christians should consider giving more from time to time to meet particular needs or in thankfulness for particular blessings.

The church budget is about £350,000. More than 80% of this is given by members of the congregation and the remainder comes from investments and room lettings. The money is used to pay staff, provide resources for our activities and to run and maintain our buildings. We try to be a generous church, giving 15% of our income away and also helping those connected to the Church who are facing severe financial difficulties.
