We hope that everyone who comes to Upton Vale on a Sunday or during the week receives a warm welcome and that those who come regularly feel they belong to the Upton Vale family.

However, becoming a formal member of the church is more than just attending. It is about:

  • being committed to Christ,
  • being committed to the people of Upton Vale, and
  • being committed to serving Christ and His world in partnership with Upton Vale

If you can honestly make these three committments, we would love to welcome you as a member of this church. There are no interviews, no tests, no votes and no embarrassing ceremonies. However, in order to make sure that you understand the commitments you are making, we ask you to attend a two-evening course which we call our Belonging Course. If at the end of the course you wish to become a member we ask you to enter into a membership covenant and to confirm your agreement to the Statement of Faith and the Church Constitution

Membership is a two-way commitment. On the part of the individual it is a commitment to be an active part of the body of Christ here at UV. On the part of the church family it is a commitment to lovingly support each member, encouraging them to become all that Christ intends for them to be. "Let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds..." (Hebrews 10 v 24)

One of the privileges and responsiblities of membership is playing a part in the decision making of the church. Members' meetings are times when we come together to consider major questions relating to the life and direction of the church, and we expect God to speak to us as we pray and discuss matters together.
